Sanday is part of our Isles Network of Care (INOC) which involves 10 islands. They meet weekly by videoconference to discuss clinical cases and provide support to each other. Each island has 24/7 nursing support and first responders on island too.

The surgery is located at Flebister House, a substantial building situated in the village of Lady, in the centre of the island, the house is also the accommodation for the island doctor. It comprises 2 consulting rooms, a waiting room with web access for patients, a dispensary and an interview room for visiting therapists. 'Near Me' is also used to allow remote consultation where appropriate. Wheelchair access is also available.

Sanday is the largest of the North Isles and the third largest island in Orkney. The island has a population of around 500. There are two main centres of population; Lady Village and Kettletoft. Sanday has 3 general goods stores, a school, a golf course, 2 post offices, two hotels and several B&B’s amongst other amenities.

Transport links to the mainland are by ferry or air. Orkney Ferries’ Ro-Ro ferry makes two return trips a day between Kirkwall and Loth Pier, with a single return trip on Sundays.

The island has its own airfield with hard runway and the Loganair plane makes two return trips from Kirkwall daily, with one return trip on Saturday and an ‘on request’ on a Sunday. The journey by plane takes just 11 minutes.

Requests for repeat prescriptions can also be made by dropping off your repeat slip to the surgery or by telephoning the practice or emailing to ork.sanday@nhs.scot.

Repeat prescriptions can be collected during the times the receptionist is on duty.

You will be requested to see the doctor for review of repeat medication at regular intervals.
