There will be a doctor on duty at all times either here or by phone from Eday on Thursday.
The surgery will organise the air ambulance and makes all the arrangements. This includes organising transport to the airfield. The direct flight from Stronsay to Kirkwall takes less than ten minutes.
You are entitled to have someone with if you wish during your examination. Please ask in advance so that arrangements can be made before hand.
The Balfour Hospital runs an excellent outpatient service. There are two consultant surgeons supported by visiting consultants from Aberdeen cover other specialities. There are medical and surgical in-patient beds but the more specialised treatments are given in Aberdeen or Inverness.
If you are travelling from Stronsay for a medical appointment the Practice will arrange transport at Health Board expense. You may have to pay the first £10 of any fare.
Stronsay Practice is a dispensing practice, but repeat prescriptions are made up in Kirkwall.
To request a repeat prescription please either call the practice on 616321 or hand in your repeat request form to the practice. Requests may also be emailed - please ask for the email address if you require it.
Please allow 7 days for all prescriptions to be made up and returned ready for collection. When requesting your repeat prescription please let us know whether you wish it to be ordered from Sutherlands or Boots.
Please also note that each repeat can only be issued so many times before it has to be reviewed by a GP.
When due, you will receive an automated letter, at this point please contact the practice to make an appointment. We would like to combine this with gynaecological examination/procedures. If you do not want a smear test when invited please would you write to say so? Otherwise you will be asked to come to the next cytology session.
Currently we run a blood clinic on Wednesday morning starting at 8.30am. Samples are sent to Kirkwall the same day so that they reach the laboratory as quickly as possible. Please contact the surgery to make an appointment.
